Big Oaks Golf Course is one of the finest municipal courses in the region. Combining affordable greens fees, a fast pace of play, and excellent amenities, Big Oaks features a 27-hole layout.
The East Course was Pleasant Prairie’s first. Featuring generous fairways, it is an excellent course for beginners. It’s also a route that allows experienced players to shoot low (if they can avoid the well-placed fairway bunkers, that is). Like the rolling prairie that surrounds the course, the greens on the East Course slope gently and evenly. It makes putts straightforward to read and gives up birdie chances even to golfers who miss their spots on approach shots. It truly offers something for every level of golfer.
The North Course at Big Oaks Golf Course features some of the most compelling topography on the property. The creek that bisects the length of the second fairway demands precise shotmaking. It certainly is a challenge to go from the tee to the fairway to the par-5 green with a dry ball. The roll of the countryside does produce the occasional partially blind fairway. This not only adds to the excitement, but rewards returning golfers. The North Course is fun, and a test of skills, for everyone.
The South Course, opened in 2001, is the newest addition to Big Oaks Golf Course. It was designed by Dick Nugent, a golf architect responsible for more than 60 courses in the Midwest. His work includes the renovations at famous Medinah No. 3, Exmoor, and Onwentsia. One of America’s best 9-hole designers, Nugent’s South Course has long, tree-lined fairways to challenge big hitters as well as turtleback greens that demand precise approach shots to hold the putting surface. You won’t want to miss a chance to play this exceptional course.
Big Oaks Golf Course is also home to a full-service practice facility that has a 300-yard driving range with both exposed grass and covered mat hitting areas. Also on site is the red brick clubhouse, complete with a covered patio, a fully stocked bar and grill, and a banquet room with seating for 80. Looking for even more room? The uncovered patio on the east side of the clubhouse can accommodate additional guests. From here, visitors can gaze out on the practice green and the impressive ninth hole of the North Course, which features a difficult carry over water to the green.
Big Oaks Golf Course is open year-round, seven days a week, from sunrise to sunset. Snowy or rainy weather conditions may result in temporary closures, however. Call the Big Oaks Golf Course clubhouse for current conditions and wait times.
